There are very few changes in this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 50 National Softball Rankings, especially in the top 10, where every team has completed its season.
The only movement came as a result of the New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Virginia playoffs. Two-time state champion Hudsonville was upset in the quarterfinals of the Michigan Division I playoffs and was eliminated from the postseason. Bay City Western, the team that defeated Hudsonville, moved into the rankings at No. 50 while Hudsonville dropped out.
The two finalists in the Virginia AAA state finals both stayed in the rankings, but the champion, Lee-Davis, moved all the way up to No. 15 after a 1-0 win over Battlefield.
Meanwhile, Moline pulled off an upset over North (St. Charles) in the Illinois 4A state playoffs. Moline enters the rankings at No. 49.
Carmel won the 4A state title in Indiana and moves up one spot to No. 21 this week.
In New Jersey, Robbinsville upset No. 1 ranked Pequannock in the Group 2 state finals to move into the rankings at No. 43. St. John Vianney, which had tied Pequannock, also entered the rankings one spot behind at No. 44 while Pequannock dropped to 45.
This weekend marks the final week for high school softball with state championships being held in many of the northern states.
