The 2023 high school football season in Tennessee kicks off later this month and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Defending Division II-AA state champion
Lipscomb Academy (Nashville) owns the No. 1 spot in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25.
Lipscomb Academy won its second straight state championship in 2022, going undefeated (13-0) and finishing ranked No. 13 nationally. The Mustangs bring back four-star senior defensive back
Kaleb Beasley, a Tennessee commit. As a junior Beasley had nine interceptions and returned four of them for touchdowns.
Gone from Lipscomb Academy is head coach Trent Dilfer, who departed for the college ranks at UAB. In his place is Pro Football Hall of Famer Kevin Mawae, who was an assistant coach in the NFL for three years.
In addition to Lipscomb Academy, other defending state champions include
Oakland (Murfreesboro) in Division I-6A,
West (Knoxville) in Division I-5A,
Anderson County (Clinton) in Division I-4A,
Alcoa in Division I-3A,
