Kansas' state record for softball win streak has a new ownerThey're a small school with a big penchant for winning at
Chase County (Cottonwood Falls, Kan.).
According to the Emporia Gazette, the Bulldogs reached the softball pinnacle in Kansas by winning their 73rd-straight game. They crushed Marion 16-1, 12-0 in a doubleheader to seize the record from Sacred Heart, which earned 72 in a row from 2005-08.
"It just adds up and you don't really realize it," senior
Cassidy Kelsheimer told the newspaper. "Win after win, you're like, we've maybe won 20 games,
we don't really know. (Today's) just another game, it's just another win
to the schedule."
The last time Chase County lost a softball game was April 3, 2012 - a 2-1 setback against Council Grove. Since then it has been nothing but wins and state titles. The Bulldogs own the last three state titles in Class 1-2A and they have finished fourth, fifth and second in the state in the
MaxPreps Computer Rankings during the streak, very good considering the size of the school.
"The community has supported these kids outstandingly," coach Brian Potter told the newspaper. "When I started coaching, it was like, there's a lot of people at these softball games. Those numbers kind of grew, then when we played in that first regional tournament, we played at home and I couldn't believe the amount of people that were there. Then the state championships have been unbelievable. We played two hours away from home last year and we had the largest crowd even though there were schools there with both the baseball and softball teams, but we still had the largest crowds."
