Video: Xcellent 25 High School Football RankingsSt. John Bosco moved into the Top 5, while Ben Davis won its ninth Indiana state title. See the video above for a complete breakdown of this week's Xcellent 25
High School Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Here's a look at developments that shaped this week's rankings:
•
Ben Davis (Indianapolis) finished its remarkable season with a 63-14 win over
Penn (Mishawaka, Ind.) in the Indiana Class 6A state championship game.
Reese Taylor threw for 340 yards and added another 131 yards on the ground to go with eight total touchdowns in the win. The 2018 Indiana commit finished his senior year with over 4,000 total yards and 57 total touchdowns.
•
American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) was involved in perhaps the
craziest game of the year. The defending Florida Class 5A state champs needed triple overtime to knock off
Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). It was the Patriots 26th consecutive win and up next is a 12-0
Immokalee (Fla.) with a spot in the 5A state championship game on the line.
•
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) both cruised to easy wins in the CIF Southern Section semifinals to set up a meeting in the section championship game for the second consecutive year. The Monarchs handed
Mission Viejo (Calif.) its only loss of the season with a dominant 49-21 win. The Braves beat
Centennial (Corona, Calif.) 62-34 as the Huskies were without their 4-star quarterback
Tanner McKee. This is the fifth straight year St. John Bosco is playing in the section championship game, with wins in 2013 and 2016.
• Ten Top 25 teams will be playing for a state or section title this week, including No. 14
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) which is going for its ninth straight state title.
