Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Kaniya Boyd of
Centennial (Las Vegas) is the 2022-23 MaxPreps Nevada High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year. The 5-foot-9 junior guard led the Bulldogs to a 30-1 record and their eighth straight state title.
Boyd averaged 12.2 points, 4.5 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game from her point guard position, helping Centennial close the season on a 30-game win streak.
Regarded as a top 50 prospect in the Class of 2024, Boyd has offers from programs like Florida State, Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Utah.
Centennial also produced the 2021-22 MaxPreps Nevada Player of the Year in Mary McMorris. Currently a freshman at Northern Arizona, she averaged 10.3 points, 5.6 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game last season for the Bulldogs.
