Last week the 6-foot, 166-pounder completed 34 of 55 passes for 444 yards and four touchdowns – all state semifinal records – during a 42-35 victory over Bountiful (Utah). The Mustangs will play Highland (Salt Lake City) for the Class 4A state title Friday at the University of Utah.
The Brigham Young University recruit, whose father (Dave) and brother (Jake) both played in the NFL, also holds these career state records: touchdowns (132), passing touchdowns (103), total passing yards (11,102), total yards (13,016), passing attempts (1,172) and completions (762).
This year he has completed 274 of 427 passes for 3,690 yards and 36 touchdowns, with just 10 interceptions. He also has run 168 times for 653 yards and 19 touchdowns.
"He's got a real quick release and reads defenses really well," coach Mark Wootton told MaxPreps. "He's also a threat to run and is extremely, extremely competitive."
Wootton said that if Kuresa was several inches taller, "We'd have thousands of (college) coaches coming here."
Kuresa, who has a 3.8 GPA, also is the starting point guard in basketball and runs the hurdles in track.
