Lone Star (Frisco) cracked the MaxPreps Texas Top 25 high school football rankings for the first time by defeating three-time defending Class 5A-D1 state champion Highland Park (Dallas) 30-19. The Rangers, ranked No. 17 in the state, pulled off the victory at Highlander Stadium where No. 18 Highland Park had lost only once previously since 1998.
Top-ranked Duncanville made a good showing against national competition with a 35-14 win over St. John's (Washington DC). The Panthers scored the game's final 21 points, beginning with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Ja'Quinden Jackson to Roderick Daniels.
No. 3 North Shore (Houston) rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final 2:53 to squeeze past Westfield (Houston) 24-21. John Villalobos' 33-yard field goal in the final seconds was the difference.

Carroll (Southlake) leapfrogged Longview into fifth place this week after a 48-7 road victory over Permian (Odessa).
