MISSION VIEJO — It took overtime for
Granite Hills (El Cajon) to win its first state title, but the Eagles' defense held up after regulation to win the CIF Division 2-A championship game 31-24 over
San Ramon Valley (Danville).
Granite Hills got the ball first in overtime and sophomore running back
Isaiah Jackson got into the end zone for a second time on the day to give the Eagles the seven-point lead. Jackson ran for a game-high 92 yards, many coming out of the wildcat formation.
San Ramon Valley converted a third down in its portion of the extra period, but was unable to convert another as Granite Hills locked down the Wolves passing game to seal the victory.

All game the Granite Hills defense stifled the San Ramon Valley aerial attack, which entered the game averaged 254 passing yards per game.

On more than 10 occasions, the Granite Hills secondary locked down San Ramon Valley receivers and Wolves three-star junior quarterback
Luke Baker was sacked or forced into a bad throw. Baker was 20 of 43 for 185 yards and two scores.

The game went to overtime when San Ramon Valley junior kicker
Austin Shelton drilled a 38-yard field goal with seconds remaining on the game clock.
All game, the Wolves matched a previous score by their opponents.

San Ramon Valley's Baker hit senior wide receiver
Trevor Scott twice in the end zone for touchdowns. Baker then tied it up again when he raced into the end zone on fourth down late in the fourth quarter with 5:56 remaining.
The teams then traded field goals before the game went into overtime.
