No. 7 Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) got its revenge on No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and beat the Braves for the first time since 2011 with a 40-21 victory. After suffering a 24-10 loss against St. John Bosco during the regular season the Friars responded with a 19-point victory to advance to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship game. The win clinched their first section championship game appearance since 2010.
Up next is No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) who held on for a 21-16 win over No. 11 Centennial (Corona, Calif.). The Monarchs improved to 10-0 after Oklahoma-bound running back
Raleek Brown rushed for six yards on 3rd-and-5 to ice the game. Brown finished the night with two touchdowns and when these two SoCal powers met on Oct. 23 the Monarchs pulled out a 46-37 win in one of the best games of the year.
No. 15 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) snapped No. 2 IMG Academy's (Bradenton, Fla.) 19-game win streak with a 34-24 win. The Panthers finished the 2021 season riding an eight-game win streak after suffering a 38-23 loss against No. 14 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) in their season-opener.
No. 24 Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) was waiting to run it back with No. 18 Hoover (Ala.) and cruised to a 35-10 win to advance to its fourth consecutive 7A state championship game.
Conner Harrell returned after missing the second half of the regular season meeting and led the Warriors to a 25-point victory. They will face Central (Phenix City) on Dec. 1 in the 7A state championship.
No. 16 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) was the only MaxPreps Top 25 team to play on Thursday and they cruised to a 56-7 win over McQueen (Reno) in the 5A state championship. It was the Gaels 12th state title since 2007.
