Jalen Green is regarded by 247Sports as the No. 3 senior high school basketball prospect in the country.

This season at Prolific Prep, the 6-foot-6 senior guard averaged 31.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game while leading the program to a 31-3 record and No. 7 national ranking. Green shot 42 percent from beyond the arc and 84 percent at the line.

But Prolific Prep co-founder and program director Philippe Doherty said Green's game and influence on the program goes deeper than his impressive numbers.

Green had three outstanding seasons at San Joaquin Memorial in Fresno before arriving in Napa for his senior season. Doherty said he was better than advertised, and Green came over with a ton of positive advertising, including winning three gold medals for USA Basketball's junior national team before turning 18 years old.

In a state brimming with nationally ranked players — and six McDonald's All Americans — Green was the clear selection as the 2019-20 Suddenlink California Player of the Year.

Other beyond-the-numbers reasons why Green was the choice, according to Doherty:

• "Two, how he treats his teammates. He encourages and leads and gives them total confidence."

• "Three, his ability. He is so talented but in many different ways."

• "Four, his skill level is off the charts because he can shoot the ball so well. His 3-point and free-throw percentages are super high but he can also finish at the rim."

• "Five, his competitive nature, especially in big games. He simply will not let his team lose."

Brandon Boston Jr., Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth)

One of the most explosive scorers in nation, Boston led the nation's No. 15 team in scoring throughout the season and carried the Trailblazers largely in the first half of the season. The nation's No. 4 recruit according to 247Sports is a prototypical do-everything guard. He's also a McDonald's All-American.

Another McDonald's All-American, the super-shooting guard averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists for the nation's No. 7 team. Doherty said Burnett is the "complete package," a 3.7 student who had 22 scholarship offers: "He's meticulous and organized and regimented. He's very mature."

Of 19 scholarship offers, Green has visited six schools, but it appears Auburn, Memphis and Oregon are on his short list. "He's the best I've been around in 21 years," Doherty said.

The No. 2 recruit in the nation by 247Sports, Mobley led the Eagles to a 22-8 record playing a national schedule. Mobley averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game and was picked as a McDonald's All-American.

The No. 5 senior recruit in the country by 247Sports and No. 1 small forward in the country, Williams had to sit out until Dec. 30 after transferring, but hit the ground running with 28 points in his season debut against Rancho Christian. He finished off the season with an iconic, viral game-winning 17-footer to beat Etiwanda in the Southern California Open Division regional final.

Another 5-star recruit in this ridiculously good 2020 class from California, Askew carried the 25-8 Monarchs (No. 21 in MaxPreps national computer rankings), averaging 16.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. 

Led the Huskies to a 28-5 season, averaging 22 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, including a 27-point effort and game-winning shot in the NorCal Open semifinal 59-58 win over Dublin. The brother of NBA's Marvin Bagley, Marcus is the No. 35 ranked senior in the country by 247Sports.

Yet another McDonald's All-American from California, Christopher averaged 29.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.1 steals per game for the Monsoons. The No. 10 senior recruit in the country, the 5-star standout has 21 offers, but UCLA, Michigan, Missouri and Arizona State appear at the top of his list.

The No. 13 senior recruit in the state according to 247Sports (No. 104 in the country), led Etiwanda to a brilliant 30-4 seasons and within an eyelash of a Southern California Open Division title. Clark is considered one of the top two-way players in Southern California.

Ranked the 10th best senior in the state by 247Sports and No. 64 in the country, Harris was Rancho Christian's leading scorer and pumped in a game-high 30 points when the Eagles knocked off Sierra Canyon 85-81 in The Classic at Damien tournament on Dec. 30.

One of the most improved players in the state, the versatile post moved up to No. 16 senior recruit in California after averaging more the 13 points and a team-best 6.6 assists per game for the No. 7 team in the country.

Ranked the 12th-best senior in the state (No. 103 in the country), the super athletic Martinez led the Lions to a 25-9 record. Martinez averaged 23.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.

Led the state in scoring at 31.0 per game for the 27-3 Eagles to go along with 6.7 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game. Scored 2,833 points in his brilliant career.

Ranked the No. 1 recruit in the state for the Class of 2021 (No. 22 nationally), Watson averaged 23.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for the Jackrabbits.
