Video: Xcellent 25 Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard: October 13Top-ranked Indianapolis Cathedral continued its domination of opponents Monday when it defeated crosstown rival Heritage Christian, 3-0, outscoring the Eagles 75-31 in the match.
In running its record to 29-0, Cathedral has outscored its foes, 75-7, and has lost just one set since Aug. 25.
It's not that the Fighting Irish are running up the score on opponents. It's the team's depth that is so dominant. Nine players have 20 or more kills this season; nine players have 10 or more assists; eight have 15 or more blocks, and nine have 30 or more digs.
Jesuit (Portland, Ore.) ran its win streak to 57 and remained No. 2, while St. James' 28th-straight win moved it to No. 3. P.K. Yonge (Gainesville, Fla.) and Carroll (Southlake, Texas) round out the Top 5.
Torrey Pines (San Diego) jumped into the Top 10 by winning the ASICS California Challenge. Led by tournament MVP Savvy Simo and all-tourney players Jillian Strockis, Caitlin Onosko and Alexis Fllippone, Torrey Pines beat Great Oak (Temecula, Calif.) in the finals, 25-20, 25-21.
Last week's No. 3, Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), finished sixth in the California Challenge and fell out of the Top 25 for the first time this season.
Mattawan (Mich.) vaulted from unranked to No. 14 with four convincing victories last week to give it 38 wins in its last 39 matches over two seasons.
In addition to Mattawan, new to the Top 25 this week are Northwest (Olathe, Kan.), St. Thomas More (Lafayette, La.) and Great Oak (Temecula, Calif.).
