Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Allie Ziebell of
Neenah is the 2023-24 Wisconsin MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot senior guard led the Rockets to a 24-6 record and a Division 1 state championship game appearance.
For the season, Ziebell averaged 27.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She scored 35 points in a 69-59 loss to Arrowhead (Hartland) in the title game and 40 to go along with 19 rebounds in a 77-70 semifinal win over Hartford.
The Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association named Ziebell the state's Ms. Basketball. In a win over Appleton North (Appleton) in November, she piled up 37 points and 20 rebounds.
She was named Wisconsin's Ms. Basketball this season. In a semifinal win over Hartford, she scored 40 to lead the Rockets to their first title game in Ziebell's career.
Regarded as one of the top players in the Class of 2024 nationally, Ziebell signed with UConn in November after committing to the program in January of 2023.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 11. Past selections include 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player Breanna Stewart (2012) as well as 2023 All-WNBA first team picks Napheesa Collier (2015), Alyssa Thomas (2010) and A'ja Wilson (2014).
