Reggie Lee, now in
his 30th season as
Brookhaven (Columbus) girls basketball coach, earned
his 500th career victory on Dec. 2 with a 42-38 victory over Africentric
Early College (Columbus).
"I really wasn't thinking about 500, but
you want to do something like that against a quality team like
Africentric," said Lee, whose team beat the Nubians to win the Columbus
City League championship last February. "Overall I thought we did a hell
of a job on (Africentric's) Raven (Ferguson)."
Ferguson, who signed with Ohio State in November, was held to eight points on 2-for-16 shooting.
* During a
68-61 victory last Saturday over Consortium College Prep (Detroit), Mackeete Allen of
Scott (Toledo) scored eight of her team's 13
overtime points and finished with 28.
COMING THIS WEEK* Walsh Ironman, wrestling: The 17th-annual Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls) Ironman wrestling tournament will be held Friday and Saturday.
More
than 60 teams are expected to be in attendance, including the top three
finishers in Ohio's Division I state tournament last year: Wadsworth,
St. Edward (Lakewood) and Perry (Massillon).
The tournament was started by former Warriors coach Bill Barger, who retired after last season.
* New Bremen at Lima Central Catholic, boys basketball:
After winning the Division III state championship, Central Catholic
(Lima) will have one of its first early tests of the 2010-11 season when
it plays host to New Bremen on Friday.
The Cardinals went 19-4 and were Division IV district runners-up last season.
* Africentric Early College (Columbus) at Hathaway Brown (Shaker Heights), girls basketball:
On Saturday, defending Division II state champions Hathaway Brown
(Shaker Heights) will play host to Africentric Early College (Columbus).
While the Nubians have two Division I college recruits in Ferguson and
Brittani Thomas (Akron). Blazers senior post player
Sarah Poland has
committed to Cornell.

St. Charles (Columbus) is seeking a boys golf coach, according to the
Columbus Dispatch. Under former coach Anthony Mampieri, the Cardinals
won the last two Division I state championships.
