It was beautiful day in Brooklyn New York, home of the Abraham Lincoln Railsplitters. The Tour of Champions made one of its final stops at this #2 ranked school.
The National Ranking trophy was presented to Coach Dwayne Morton and the team at a pep rally in the boys Gymnasium. Over 200 students cheered on the entire team as they accepted this prestigious award. MaxPreps Representative Rod Mergardt spoke about the team’s achievement and introduced each player on the team individual and presented them with an extra special award.. Rod invited Sgt. Swartz from the New York Army National Guard to present The National Ranking trophy to the coach and the team. While the presentation was going on other Army National Guard representatives on-site handed out T-Shirts and basketballs to the team who graciously accepted the gifts and the trophy. The students and staff were very enthusiastic to not only be presented with the honor, but to among the top 20 teams in the country out of over 20,000 schools nationwide. Coach Morton was very grateful and honored to be #2 in the entire country
The presentation ended with the team and National Guard Representatives posing for formal pictures. 2008 is the second time the Tour of Champions has visited Lincoln High School. I have a strong feeling we will be back for year 3!
