Perhaps increased scoring advocates could simply consult head coach Greg Wise, who led the 2009-10
Yates (Houston) juggernaut that averaged a national record 116.2 points per game.
Just five years after the fact, it's a feat that has become a little difficult to believe actually happened –

The Lions not only put up monster scoring totals, but they also ran the table (34-0) against a formidable schedule that included opponents from seven different states en route to state and national titles.

Highest single-game point total: 170The 2009-10 Yates team broke national records for points per game and consecutive 100-point games (15). The Lions put up 100 or more 26 times in 34 outings (third all-time) and also own two of the most prolific single-game scoring efforts in high school basketball history with 170 against Houston Lee and 164 against Houston Math, Science & Technology.
Yates beat Lancaster for the Class 4A state title in dramatic fashion in front of over 16,000 fans in Austin. Trailing by one point entering the final three minutes of the contest, the Lions went on a 22-1 tear from that point on to win 92-73.
The win over Lancaster was the 58th in a row for the program going back to the 2008-09 season, which also ended with a state championship.
Yates attacked opponents with a ferocious full-court defense and kept the tempo at a blistering pace with a quick-shot offense that relied heavily on the three ball.
All-American guards Joseph Young and Brandon Peters were a perfect fit for Wise's system. Both were athletic and relentless defenders that also fueled the Lions offensively by averaging over 25 points per game — apiece.
Five other players averaged 10 points per game or more.
Wise remains at Yates and the program has continued its high-scoring ways, putting up 82 points per game or more in all five seasons since their national championship run.
Catching up with stars of the 2009-10 Yates national championship teamAlexander Davis: The 6-foot-9 forward started 13 games for Fresno State during the 2014-15 season. Spent two years at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas before heading to the Mountain West Conference.
Darius "Pee Wee" Gardner: Began college career at Stephen F. Austin before transferring to American, where he put up 10.5 assists and 3.9 assists per game in 2014-15.
Brandon Peters: Finished his college career at NAIA Talladega College, where he averaged 18.2 points per game during the 2014-15 season.
Clyde Santee: A major contributor as a sophomore at Yates in 2010, the wiry wing originally signed with UMass. Played last season at Odessa College in Texas and has signed with Southeast Missouri State.
Joseph Young: Played two seasons at Houston before transferring to Oregon, where he was named Pac-12 Conference Player of the Year in 2014-15. Expected to be taken in the upcoming NBA Draft.
