The MaxPreps Cup attempts to rank the nation's top athletic programs. The formula used to rank schools takes into account finishes in 21 boys and girls sports (a team must finish either first or second in the state to receive points) along with the size of the state, the size of the school and the popularity of the sport. National rankings are also included in the final point totals.
Schools that performed well in cross country dominate the list with eight of the top 10 teams winning at least one state title in either boys or girls cross country.
