The 6th Annual MaxPreps Boys Basketball Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard hosted a celebration of the amazing feat of the boy's basketball team's undefeated season of 28-0 and their first-ever State Championship. The team, led by Coach Steve Showalter was honored by the Wisconsin Army National Guard and MaxPreps in front of family, friends, fans, and local media on Wednesday evening, April 18th.
MaxPreps representative Karl Wilhelm noted that only 10 teams out of 20,000 schools nationwide are chosen to be so honored. Not only had they won the state title but, among 20,000 teams nationwide, MaxPreps ranked them No. 21 according to their national MaxPreps Freeman poll.
The prestigious Army National Guard national ranking trophy was presented by Wisconsin Army National Guard Staff Sergeant William Krauss in recognition of the team's success. The award was received proudly by Coach Showalter who praised each member of the team, their hustle, and also expressed privilege of being their coach. He relayed how they had all grown in character during the season. A championship rafter banner was also presented to cement this team's place in Wisconsin basketball history. The presentation ended with each player and coach receiving an individual trophy, being interviewed by local media and posing for pictures with their new Army National Guard national ranking trophy and banner.
Germantown High School has much to be proud of and their fans showed their appreciation for a job well done. It was a special night. Congratulations to Coach Showalter and your team on an outstanding season and best wishes in the years to come!
