There is no better way to kickoff Super Bowl weekend then a stop in Cumberland Center, Maine where MaxPreps and the Army National Guard honored the Lady Rangers of Greely High School Girls Volleyball team. This talented volleyball team achieved this prestigious honor by completing their undefeated season, taking home a state championship and finishing ranked No. 34 in the nation by the MaxPreps Freeman Poll.
The 2nd Annual MaxPreps Girls Volleyball Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard arrived at Greely High School on Friday, February 3rd at 8:00am. School had just begun but the hallways were bursting with chatter about the pep rally at 9:30am to honor the Girls Volleyball team. Upon entering the school, we were greeted by Athletic Director David Shapiro and Girls Volleyball Head Coach Kelvin Hasch. They led us to the gymnasium where we could start prepping for the ceremony. After setting up the Tour display, the Maine Army National Guard representative Sergeant First Class Richard Campbell arrived with excitement and enthusiasm about the event. Coach Hasch and his team gathered as SFC Campbell handed out commemorative MaxPreps Tour of Champions t-shirts. The coach and his players expressed their appreciation for this honor to SFC Campbell and MaxPreps representative, Michael Listner.
As 9:30 rolled around students and parents started packing the stand in the gymnasium. Everyone was dressed in their maroon and white school colors showing their school spirit and support for the Girls Volleyball team. Michael Listner kicked off the ceremony talking about why the team was being honored, specifically mentioning their incredible undefeated season and 8th state championship since the volleyball program began in 2000. Michael recognized the girls' No. 34 national ranking out of 17,000 girls' volleyball teams ranked by MaxPreps. Michael then introduced SFC Campbell from the Maine Army National Guard. SFC Campbell paid tribute to Coach Hasch and the Lady Rangers on a memorable season filled with determination, dedication, and perseverance. He compared their superior teamwork skills to the qualities that are highly valued among members of the Army National Guard. He then proceeded to present Coach Hasch with the prestigious Army National Guard ranking ranking trophy or a "Minuteman" statue representing their national ranking and commitment and teamwork. Coach Hasch graciously accepted the trophy and was quick to share the honor with his players. The crowd erupted in applause congratulating the team on such a memorable season.
Congratulations to the Greely High School Girls Volleyball Team for an amazing season.
