The Las Lomas Knights were coming off their first win of the season and hoping to continue their solid play against Rocklin on Friday night.
However, the Thunder had other plans.
In a game that featured two talented running backs, Rocklin’s offense tore apart the Knights defense, as the Thunder won 62-35.

Much of the Rocklin (3-0) offense came from senior running back Jackson Cummings, who ran for 170 yards and five touchdowns. Friday marks the third time this season that the Knights (1-3) have given up at least four touchdowns on the ground. After the game, some players were questioning the intensity the Knights played with.
“Eight out of 33 people went hard today,” said senior lineman Zack Hart. “We need to start working hard in practice and get the other 25 to catch up to the eight.”
The Las Lomas offense played well, as the Knights ran for four touchdowns and threw one. Junior running back Marquis Waters was once again the driving force for the offense, running for 140 yards and three touchdowns, including a 63-yard run. Senior quarterback Lucas Gorton also ran for one touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to senior Jacob Mayer, but turned the ball over twice.
“The offense played well at times,” said Knights head coach Doug Longero. “We were in the game, but after the fumble, the game kind of turned.”
Rocklin junior quarterback Jimmy Laughrea threw for 234 yards and one touchdown. The Thunder also played nearly perfect football offensively for much of the night.
“We need to practice harder, come out and line up right, and not make any key mistakes,” said junior linebacker Joey Sabella. “We need to play defense together.”
The team’s play so far has been inconsistent, according to Max Kessler.
“We need to play a game for four quarters,” said the junior defensive back.
Next Friday night, Las Lomas will begin league play with a road matchup against rival Acalanes.
