Video: Top 25 high school football rankings
Mater Dei, St. John Bosco own top two spots heading into this week's showdown.
In less than 24 hours, the game sold out on Saturday. According to the St. John Bosco website, the only way to watch the game live is on Fox Sports Prime Ticket.
The new and pristine Panish Family Stadium holds only 5,000 fans. But unlike more rabid football regions in the country, securing a seat for a prep football game in Southern California, where interests sprawl as wide as its freeways, is not a problem.
Then again, these are the two top ranked teams not only in the state, but also the country. The 8-0 squads feature the top two rated senior quarterbacks in the land, they play in the same Trinity League and have battled for state and national supremacy since 2016.
Steve Fryer of the
Orange County Register found a Craigslist post asking $200 for a ticket.
The game is that big of a deal, just like last year's regular season matchup that was also a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown and 41-18 win for then top-ranked Bosco. The two teams had a rematch a month later for the CIF Southern Section Division 1 title and Mater Dei turned the tables 17-13 at Cerritos College.
More than likely, the two superpowers will meet again this season on Nov. 30, again at Cerritos College for Southern Section D1 crown. Until then, this is the SoCal Prep Super Bowl ticket all are clamoring for.
Bosco's Panish Family Stadium will be the site of Friday's showdown between high school football's top two teams.
