The Southern California Division I regional championship matches the Central Section champion Edison against Oceanside, the top squad in the San Diego area. Edison (12-1) is playing in its first-ever state bowl playoff game because of its hard-fought 21-14 win over Liberty (Bakersfield) for the Central Section Division I crown. Senior

Meanwhile, Oceanside (13-0) earned its third state playoff invite on the strength of a 20-13 win over Helix (La Mesa) in the San Diego Section Open Division title game. The Pirates locked up their 15th section title since 1963, but only after they rallied back from 13-3 third-quarter deficit.
