The 10th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard made a stop at
St. Edward in Lakewood, Ohio on February 26th. Lakewood is located along the shores of Lake Erie, just outside Cleveland. St. Edward's is an all boys' college preparatory school that excels both academically and athletically.
The St. Edward's varsity football team won the Ohio Division I state championship and they were also ranked No. 3 out of more than 16,000 high school varsity football teams nationwide by MaxPreps. The 2014 season was actually the second time that the school was honored with the prestigious award, having been visited in 2010 as well! Presentation of the Army National Guard national ranking trophy was made during half-time of a boys' varsity basketball game before a standing-room only crowd.
Presenting the trophy to the team and head coach Rick Finotti was Captain Kyle Moore of the Ohio Army National Guard. Captain Moore emphasized teamwork during the presentation, highlighting that trait among the team and any successful endeavor. Following the presentation by the Army National Guard, the Eagles raised their 2014 Division I State Championship banner in the gymnasium. Along with the ‘Minuteman' trophy, it was a spirited celebration filled with the pride of coaches, players, administration, family and friends.
Congratulations St. Edward's on a state title and national ranking!
