TAFT, Calif. -
Taft (Calif.) saw its 11-point lead dwindle to nine, but still managed to hang on and upset
Coalinga (Calif.) 9-0 on Saturday.
The lead that the Wildcats took on a field goal by
Iran Rubio with 3:00 left in the first quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Horned Toads took, 59-15.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Taft, which was coming off a 21-20 defeat at the hands of Golden Valley in its previous game.
In a non-conference game next week Taft (1-1) takes on Exeter, and Coalinga (0-1) will go up against Kerman also in a non-conference game.
