Video: Demetris Robertson's ultimate highlights.
Savannah Christian senior picks Cal on May Day. One of the nation's last uncommitted elite football players and No. 1 receiver from the Class of 2016 has picked the West Coast.
Demetris Robertson, a 6-foot, 175-pound receiver from
Savannah Christian (Savannah, Ga.) announced Sunday morning he will play for coach Sonny Dykes in Berkeley (Calif.). Robertson is the No. 14 recruit overall by
247Sports Composite.
Robertson waited well past National Signing Day of Feb. 3 to decide and shocked most who thought Georgia and Notre Dame were front-runners. Cal lost its top six receivers to graduation or the draft, and also its quarterback Jared Goff, the No. 1 pick in Thursday's NFL Draft.
That made Robertson's announcement Sunday morning all the more surprising.
Though recruited as a wide receiver, Robertson rushed 107 times for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns for the 9-3 Raiders. He also caught 12 passes for 128 yards and another score, and added 41 tackles and two interceptions on defense.
His primary role at Cal isn't yet clear, but surely he'll be a playmaker. He recently won the 2016 Ashley Dearing Award as Savannah's top male all-around athlete. He also excels in basketball and last year won the Georgia A state 100-meter, 200 and long jump championships in track and field.
