Westlake (Austin) used outstanding quarterback play by University of Texas pledge Sam Ehlinger to defeat Allen 23-17 in a Class 6A Division I state semifinal in Waco.
Outstanding quarterback play was an Allen staple with Kyler Murray (now at Texas A&M) in three state championship seasons coinciding with the start of the winning streak in 2012.
Katy supplants Allen at No. 1 going into this week's UIL state championship games at Houston's NRG Stadium. The Tigers (15-0) recorded their 10th shutout of the season in a 38-0 victory over Steele (Cibolo) in a Class 6A Division II state semifinal.
The Tigers will face No. 2 Lake Travis (Austin) in Saturday's title game, their fourth state final in succession and record 14th appearance overall. The 15-0 Cavaliers breezed past Mansfield 49-21.
Westlake (14-1), with its only loss coming to Lake Travis, will meet Galena Park North Shore (Houston) for the 6A-DI crown.
Championship weekend, consisting of 10 state finals in three days, begins on Thursday.

Lake Travis moved into the No. 2 spot in this week's Texas Top 25.

1. (Last week 2) Katy 15-0 The Tigers' 10th shutout of the season is the most impressive yet, limiting 14-1 Steele (Cibolo) to 111 yards and seven first downs in a 6A-II 38-0 rout.
JoVanni Stewart returned a fumble 21 yards for a Katy touchdown.
2. (4) Lake Travis (Austin) 15-0 Charlie Brewer threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns while versatile
Maleek Barkley accounted for 215 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-21 elimination of Mansfield in 6A-II.
3. (5) Westlake (Austin) 14-1Sam Ehlinger threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns while adding 127 yards on the ground in a 23-17 victory over Allen in 6A-I, snapping the Eagles' victory streak at 57.
4. (1) Allen 14-1* Down 23-0, the Eagles rallied in the final minutes but fell short in a 23-17 loss to Westlake (Austin) in 6A-DI, ending Allen's consecutive victory streak at 57.
5. (7) Cedar Park 15-0 Javelin Guidry sparked a 360-yard ground attack with 157 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-17 elimination of Fort Bend Ridge Point (Missouri City) in 5A-II.
6. (9) Lake Ridge (Mansfield) 15-0Duke Carter rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns while
Jett Duffey threw for two scores in a 42-21 victory over Aledo in 5A-I.
7. (10) George Ranch (Richmond) 15-0The one-two rushing punch of
Darius Anderson and
Alex Fontenot accounted for 277 and 162 yards respectively in a 42-23 elimination of Vista Ridge (Cedar Park) in 5A-I.
8. (12) North Shore (Houston) 12-3The Mustangs secured a 6A-DI state final berth with a 23-17 win over Judson (Converse) in 6A-I.
Aaron Cuevas kicked three field goals and
Carl Guillory scored the winning touchdown on a 24-yard run with 2:09 remaining.
9. (3) Steele (Cibolo) 14-1*Four fumbles doomed the Knights in a lopsided 38-0 loss to Katy in 6A-II
10. (6) Judson (Converse) 13-2* The Rockets were eliminated in a 6A-I state semifinal by Galena Park North Shore (Houston) 23-17 in 6A-I.
11. (8) Mansfield 12-3*The Tigers were overpowered by Lake Travis in a 6A-II semifinal, 49-21.
12. (11) Aledo 13-2*Bidding for its fifth state title in six years, the Bearcats lost to Lake Ridge (Mansfield) 42-21 in 5A-I.
13. (14) Lone Star (Frisco) 14-1Jason Shelley's two-yard touchdown run in the third overtime carried the Rangers to a 55-49 victory over Lake Dallas in 5A-II. Shelley rushed for 204 yards and five touchdowns.
14. (18) West Orange-Stark (Orange) 14-1Jack Dallas threw for 268 yards and five touchdowns, four of the scores going to
Thomas Wallace (five catches, 204 yards) in a 41-28 triumph over Cuero in 4A-II.
15. (19) Celina 15-0Conner Pingleton threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more while the Bobcats' defense returned two interceptions for touchdowns in a 49-44 take-down of defending state champion Gilmer in 4A-II.
16. (20) Argyle 14-1Gage McCook's 14-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds remaining, his second score of the game, carried the Eagles to a 24-17 victory over Wylie (Abilene) in 4A-I.
17. (21) La Vega (Waco) 15-0Kemoche' Hobbs and
Parrish Cobb combined for only five carries, but those accounted for 157 yards and four touchdowns in a 39-3 ousting of Carthage in 4A-I.
18. (24) Cameron Yoe (Cameron) 14-1Traion Smith rushed for 175 yards and four touchdowns as the Yoemen won their 22nd consecutive playoff game 40-14 over Mathis in 3A-I.
19. (NR) Waskom 15-0Chandrin Amie rushed for 236 yards and two touchdowns, including a 1-yarder for the winning score in the fourth quarter of a 28-24 elimination of Idalou in 3A-II.
20. (NR) Franklin 15-0Jacob Dorsett booted a 31-yard field goal with 15 seconds remaining for the winning points in a 10-7 elimination of East Bernard in 3A-II.
21. (NR) Brock 15-0Leddy French rushed for 177 yards and also threw a touchdown pass in a 38-22 victory over Mineola in 3A-I.
22. (NR) Canadian 15-0Tanner Schafer threw for 321 yards and accounted for four touchdowns in a 61-14 roasting of Crawford in 2A-I.
23. (NR) Bremond 15-0Kaidyn Peralez rushed for 164 yards and
Roshauud Paul accounted for 215 total yards in a 40-7 take-down of Muenster in 2A-II.
24. (NR) Refugio 13-2Jaylon Mascorro threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 112 yards and a score in a 46-28 elimination of Lovelady in 2A-I.
