Hedgesville is a perfect 10-0 against Martinsburg since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Hedgesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.
Hedgesville will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Jefferson, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles blew past the Cougars 9-3 on Monday. Considering the Eagles have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Chloe Frankhouser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hedgesville let Lexie Brown and Mayla Ortega run wild. Brown went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Ortega went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Ortega has posted over her last ten contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Boyer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Hedgesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Martinsburg's offense. They came up short against Millbrook on Monday, falling 11-0.
Hedgesville's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Martinsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hedgesville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .401. However, it's not like Martinsburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hedgesville got the 'W' in their previous meeting last Saturday against Martinsburg by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
