On Wednesday afternoon, February 7th the Gaffney Indians football team was honored by the MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard.
The event took place during a pep rally in the high school mega-gymnasium, which sat over 2,000 students. The pep rally was complete with performing cheerleaders and a full band. Kicking off the ceremony was MaxPreps representative Bob Kelly. As the entire student body looked on, it was announced that Gaffney was one of the top ranked teams in the nation, placing 30th in America, out of over 16,000 teams. Sergeant Keith Williams of the Louisiana Army National Guard addressed the crowd and took the honors in presenting Head Coach Phil Strickland with the MaxPreps Tour of Champions national rankings trophy.
Gaffney has become quite familiar with recognizing excellence, as this was the 3rd state championship in 4 years, and second championship in a row. Gaffney high school has set the bar for consistency and elite high school football in South Carolina and in the United States. Congratulations once again, and we look forward to the possibility of honoring the team again in '08. Best of luck to the Indians this fall!
