Notre Dame drops from top slot as Parkview also falls 10 spots.
The Mission League has a league schedule that requires teams to play the same opponent three times during a given week. The format requires a deep pitching staff to come away unscathed.
No. 1 Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) got through the first two games of its Mission League matchup with Crespi (Encino) unblemished, but the Knights were unable to keep the Celts at bay in the third game, losing 11-5 and dropping from the top spot in the MaxPreps Top 25 national high school baseball rankings.
The Knights have plenty of chances at redemption as they play in the National High School Invitational later this month and the Boras Classic South tournament in April. For now, the loss drops them to No. 14 in this week's rankings.
De La Salle (Concord), winners of 30 straight games dating back to last season, moves up to the top spot after a win over Elk Grove. The Spartans have a tough week ahead with games against Jesuit (Carmichael), Saint Francis (Mountain View) and St. Mary's (Stockton).
The top newcomer is Mountain Brook (Birmingham, Ala.), which won the Perfect Game Showdown Blue Division bracket over Buford (Ga.), 1-0 and comes in at No. 19. Mountain Brook is one of five teams to join this week's rankings.
Dropped Out: No. 7 Reagan (San Antonio); No. 11 Mountain Pointe (Phoenix); No. 15 Huntington Beach (Calif.); No. 19 Boyd (McKinney, Texas); No. 23 Prosper (Texas).
Game of the Week: DeSoto Central 4, Hartselle 3. In the championship game of the Perfect Game Showdown White Division, the Jaguars scored two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh to tie Hartselle and then scored a run in the bottom of the eighth on a Mac Sims RBI single.
Player of the Week: Cade Verdusco, Corona del Sol. Batting .520 on the season (13 for 25), Verdusco had a huge week, going 8-for-10 with six doubles and a triple.
Recruit Watch: Blaze Jordan, DeSoto Central. In back-to-back games at the Perfect Game Showdown in Hoover (Ala.), Jordan went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple against Northside and 3-for-4 with two triples against Cullman.
Game to Watch: JSerra Catholic vs. Santa Margarita. JSerra Catholic won the Boras Classic last year and is off to a strong start in 2020. Santa Margarita, meanwhile, won the Southern Section Division 2 championship last year. The winner of the three-game series this week will have the early leg up in the Trinity League.
Tournaments on Tap: Boras Classic Arizona. Tournament features Corona del Sol and Hamilton, both of whom are ranked in the Top 25 this week, along with top teams from Nevada in Bishop Gorman and Palo Verde and Colorado powerhouse Cherry Creek.
Streaks: Silo (Okla.) extended its national-leading win streak to 41 games with a win its season opener, but fell to defending Class 6A state champion Edmond Santa Fe on Saturday to end the streak. Blanchard (Okla.), which opens its season on Monday against Sulphur with a 39-game win streak.
