Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Jadyn Davis of
Providence Day (Charlotte) is the 2023 MaxPreps North Carolina High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior quarterback led the Chargers to a 12-1 record and NCISAA Division I state title.
Davis threw for 3,370 yards and 43
touchdowns while completing 70.8 percent of his passes. In a 42-35 win over Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.) in the opener, he went 24 of 35 for a season-high 499 yards and five touchdowns.

In a 34-27 championship game win over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (Rabun), Davis threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns, leading Providence Day to its third straight title.
Providence Day averaged 47.3 points per game behind its star quarterback, scoring at least 27 points in every contest.
Davis was also named the 2022 MaxPreps North Carolina Player of the Year. In leading Providence Day to a 23-2 record over the past two seasons, he piled up 6,795 yards and 86 touchdowns through the air while completing 71.7 percent of his attempts.
Regarded as a top 10 quarterback in the Class of 2024 by
247Sports, Michigan landed a commitment from Davis in March.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
