Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Lenee Beaumont of
Benet Academy (Lisle) is the 2022-23 MaxPreps Illinois High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot senior guard helped the Redwings go 25-8 and reach the Class 4A state championship game.
For the season, Beaumont averaged 19.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. She dropped a game-high 27 points in the title game before her team fell in double overtime to O'Fallon.
Benet Academy won 55 games in Beaumont's final two seasons. She will continue her basketball career next year with another winning program at Indiana – currently ranked No. 3 by the Associated Press.
Then-junior Alyssa Latham of
Homewood-Flossmoor (Flossmoor) was the 2021-22 MaxPreps Illinois Player of the Year. She averaged 19.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots per game.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in April.
