Football coaching changes are taking shape in Oregon despite it being March.
Lane Johnson, the
Sheldon (Eugene) defensive coordinator for the past 14 seasons, replaces his brother, Marty Johnson, who resigned in December. Marty Johnson went 137-27 in 14 seasons at the 6A high school in Eugene. He won three big-school state championships.
Lane Johnson, a 1982 Marshfield graduate, spent 11 seasons as an assistant at Glencoe before going to Sheldon when Marty was hired in 1997. He also served as head boys basketball coach at Sheldon for four seasons.
Sheldon has been to the state playoffs 12 straight seasons, won nine league titles and three state titles during that span.
* Tim Brink, who has assisted at eight Oregon high schools (Gresham, South Medford, Ashland, St. Mary's/Medford, North Valley, Colton, Clackamas and Estacada) is the new
Milwaukie football coach. He also assisted at the University of Northern Colorado.
Brink replaces John Romanaggi, who was 8-37 in five seasons with the Mustangs, including 1-8 last season in the team's transition from Class 6A to Class 5A. Since 1991, Milwaukie has made the playoffs once (2005).

Crook County (Prineville) hired Ryan Cochran to replace Woody Bennett, who retired.
A former line coach at CCHS, Cochran has been coaching middle school football for the last three seasons. He played football at Eastern Oregon University and has been a football coach for 11 years. CCHS recently dropped from 5A to 4A and went 7-3 in 2010.
