Romeo Langford and his family have to cover their ears.
The
New Albany High School senior, a first team MaxPreps All-American and one of the greatest high school players to come out of the basketball-rich state of Indiana, will announce his college plans 7 p.m. local time Monday.
"He's just a high school kid going to play basketball," Langford's mother Sabrina told the
Indianapolis Star. "What is the big deal?"
It's going to be a very big deal Monday at the New Albany gym, where Langford plans to make his announcement in front of what figures to be a very large gathering.
He drew sellout crowds most of his senior season while chasing Damon Bailey's career state scoring total of 3,134 points. Langford, a 6-foot-5 guard rated the No. 6 player overall in his class by 247Sports, fell just short at 3,002.
But the McDonald's All-American did average 35.5 points per game for the 25-2 Bulldogs.
He put off his college choice until the last minute while focusing on his final high school season. Recently he announced his three college finalists: Kansas, Indiana and Vanderbilt.
Hoosier fans take it as a positive sign that Langford picked a local venue, opposed from announcing on social media.
"I don't think it is going to be a negative reaction if I don't pick IU," Langford told the Star. "I think they will support me either way, wherever I go."
