A total of 28 states are in various stages of making high school girls flag football a sanctioned sport, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations. Florida (FHSAA) has been leading the charge for nearly 20 years but 11 other states will have flag football as a recognized scholastic sport during the 2024-2025 school year.
Flag football is played in the spring or fall. States like Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia and Illinois will kick off their seasons in August.
Below is a look at 20 players to watch this fall. These athletes were selected based on statistical information provided to MaxPreps, local honors and a combination of other factors. If you have a player to keep an eye on, a coach who needs access to provide data to MaxPreps, know a top team to watch, or have general questions about our coverage of flag football, please email
