In mid-November, Humphrey St. Francis' Allison Weidner committed to Amy Williams and the University of Nebraska women's basketball program. Since the Nebraska girls basketball season began three weeks ago, Weidner has spent her time on the basketball court backing up her desire to play for the Cornhuskers.
Stacy Kramer's Fullerton girls basketball program took Weidner's best shot of the season a week ago. Averaging 25.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 8.2 steals and 0.6 blocked shots during a 4-1 start to the Flyer season, Weidner produced one of four triple doubles posted across the Cornhusker State this winter in St. Francis' 70-41 win over the 6-1 Warriors Dec. 21.
The 29 point, 12 rebound, six assist and 10 steal performance in the Goldenrod Conference win allowed the returning Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star First Team All-Stater to claim the top individual girls basketball performance in the Cornhusker State to date. Weidner also ripped the cords for 36 points in a 60-54 loss to Summerland two nights earlier.
Taylor Peter of Chambers/Wheeler Central took the No. 2 spot with a 22 point, 15 rebound, five assist and 12 steal triple double in a 63-46 triumph over Summerland while Santee's Hannah Sheridan posted Nebraska's third triple-double and earned the No. 3 rung with 16 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and 12 steals in a 73-38 victory over Walthill.
Kate Stienike of North Platte St. Patrick's was credited with a triple-double 11 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and 10 steals in a 50-23 win over Hershey to claim the No. 4 spot while Superior's Kalynn Meyer rounded out the Top 5 with a 27 point, 21 rebound, two assist, three steal and four blocked shot performance in a 50-31 triumph over Fairbury December 10.
Classes A, C2, D1 and D2 are all represented in this week's Top 10. But plenty of Class B and Class C1 athletes are off to fast starts as well. Omaha Duchesne's Lucy Schonlau led Class B with her 13 point, 16 rebound, one assist, two steal and three blocked shot performance in a 49-37 loss to Platteview while Jayla Price of Winnebago led Nebraska's third largest classification with 23 points, eight assists and 10 steals in a 92-19 win over Walthill
In order to be considered for this week's Top 10, an athlete had to produce a double-double and compete at a high level in another category. The statistics used for this week's Top 10 were pulled from MaxPreps' stat database Thursday afternoon.
