The high school football season in Oklahoma came to a close over the weekend with the last of nine championship games. Bixby was among the winners, edging Choctaw 17-14 in the Class 6A Division II title game and finishing No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top 25 computer rankings.
That victory, coupled with a 11-0 record and consistent excellence this season, makes Bixby the 2020 MaxPreps Champion for the state of Oklahoma.
Under head coach Loren Montgomery, state championships are becoming the norm at Bixby, where the Spartans have now won three in a row and six in seven years. The program is 75-14 during that span.
Running back
Braylin Presley led the charge for Bixby in the championship game, running 35 times for 218 yards and a touchdown. That came on the heels of a 286-yard performance in the semifinals where he found the end zone four times. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound junior finished his campaign with 1,744 yards on the ground and 25 touchdowns. He also caught 57 passes for 727 yards and 10 scores.
Presley's efforts spearheaded an offense that averaged 48.8 points per game with totals of 74, 70 and 61 along the way.
Senior safety
Tanner Doyle tallied 11 tackles against Choctaw, bringing his season total to a team-leading 102. Junior
Jack Puckett led the team in tackles for loss and sacks with 17 and seven, respectively.
