Montverde Academy (Fla.) boys varsity basketball season has begun and the Eagles are currently 7-0. Their latest win was Dec. 7 and played at home inside the Center for Sportsmanship and Wellness ("The Nest") which was broadcasted live nationally by the ESPN Network.
Montverde Academy has now played 20 times live on national television in the past four years. This holiday season, the Eagles will be going on the road for their next games and play in three consecutive tournaments traveling from Dec. 18-Jan. 3. Coach Boyle has once again put together another exciting schedule for the MVA Eagles as they continue to challenge themselves season after season.
Even with a young team, and the loss of a major player like Ben Simmons, the Eagles will be put to the test with what could be the toughest schedule coach Boyle has ever put together.
First up is The City of Palms in Ft. Myers, Fla. Dec. 19-23. Next for MVA will be the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Dec. 26-31. On New Year's Day they are on the early morning flight heading to Wheeling, W.Va. for the Cancer Research Classic on Jan. 2.
Players to watch on Montverde Academy this year are freshman
R.J. Barrett, sophomore
E.J. Montgomery, sophomore
Simisola Shittu, and sophomore
Silvio de Sousa.
Senior Ohio State commit
Micah Potter and Butler-bound
Howard Washington are up to the challenge and will be exciting to watch this year.
Coach Boyle had this to say about his schedule and the upcoming tournaments: "Even though the team is extremely young, we wanted to challenge them with three of the most competitive tournaments in high school basketball. I am looking forward to seeing this team develop and hope we can reach our goal this year for our fourth consecutive national title."
