Josh Sweat, the nation's No. 1 defensive end
according to the 247Composite, committed to Florida State on Wednesday, in an announcement made from his high school auditorium.
Sweat selected the Seminoles from a pool of offers over most of the nation's top schools. His
247 Crystal Ball also showed Virginia Tech, Georgia, Ohio State and Tennessee as other potential landing spots.
The
Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) standout enjoyed a monster season as a junior in 2013, compiling 94 tackles and 22 sacks in leading Oscar Smith to a 14-1 record.
Sweat's senior season was over almost as soon as it began; he dislocated his left knee in the team's third game.
It was difficult for Sweat to be sidelined for a team that began the season nationally ranked.
"I never want to be selfish and take anything from the team, but it's still kind of hard to watch," Smith
told the Virginian-Pilot. "I'm not even going to lie. I can't help but feel left out."
Sweat will continue his rehab at Florida State and should make a full recovery.
