Ranked as the nation's No. 3 overall player and a five-star recruit by CBS/MaxPreps analyst Tom Lemming, the DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) star visited Auburn last weekend and "said he liked it," his brother, Arie, a freshman at the University of Alabama, told MaxPreps Tuesday night.
"He has a lot to think about. Right now he's probably buying multiple hats (for his TV announcement)."
DeMatha coach Bill McGregor had told MaxPreps privately a couple weeks ago that he thought Cyrus would join Arie at Alabama next year. Now he's not so sure.
"He wants Auburn, I think," McGregor said Tuesday night. "He liked it a lot and had a good time. I'm totally surprised."
Cyrus, a powerful 6-foot-7, 325-pound left tackle, wasn't talking. McGregor said he failed to return two of his calls on Tuesday.
Arie said he did talk to his brother earlier on Tuesday. He insisted he doesn't know what his brother will say when he steps up to the microphone at noon (EST) on Wednesday to make his announcement on national television.
"It's going to be a complete surprise," Arie said. "I don't think he knows what he's going to do. I'm definitely going to have to watch it (the telecast). I might get a little text about five minutes before."
