The MaxPreps Game of the Week features a pair of Southern California powers as No. 14 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) hosts No. 13 Centennial (Corona).
After beating Mater Dei twice last season, including a one-point thriller in the Southern Section Division 1 semifinals, Centennial gets another shot at the Monarchs on Friday.
In 2025, the Huskies handed Mater Dei two of its three losses, winning a 43-36 shootout Sept. 12 before knocking off the Monarchs 28-27 in the postseason. The victories snapped Mater Dei's seven-game winning streak in the series and helped Centennial finish ranked No. 8 nationally.
Centennial (1-1) beat Servite (Anaheim) 41-21 in its opener before falling 21-20 to Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) after missing a potential game-tying extra point in the fourth quarter. Matt Logan, who has coached the Huskies since 1997, entered the season with 307 career victories, which is good for 12th all-time in California.
