LA VERNE, Calif. — The nation's No. 2 team will play the country's top-rated senior player in Monday's title game of The Classic at
Damien tournament.
Shy Odom scored 12 points and made a bucket with less than a minute to play to put Sierra Canyon up for good, 54-53. He then made one free throw and Boston, a Kentucky commit, added two from the line a little later to put the Trailblazers into the championship against
Rancho Christian (Temecula) (13-2), a 70-58 winner over
St. John Bosco (Bellflower), which outscored the Eagles 25-13 in the fourth to make the score reasonable.
Rancho Christian features 6-foot-11 post
Evan Mobley, rated the No. 1 senior in the country by 247Sports. The USC-signee had 15 points and 13 rebounds in the semifinal win while
Bryson Stephens scored a team-high 16.
Josh Camper had 21 points to lead all scorers for Bosco (12-3).
Sierra Canyon will feature it's own five-star player in
Ziaire Williams, making his first appearance for the Trailblazers after transferring from Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) in the summer.
Williams, a 6-7 small forward, is ranked the fifth best senior in the country and last season averaged 27 points per game for Notre Dame. He has 17 college offers, including Duke and North Carolina, as well as Stanford and USC. He had to sit out due to CIF Southern Section transfer rules.
Monday's championship game at Damien's main gym is slated for 8:30 p.m.
