The 6A Metro League and the 5A
Mid Willamette Conference are arguably the toughest football affiliations in
Oregon football. That much
is apparent based on the championship matchups this week in the OSAA title
games.ÿ
Top-ranked and undefeated Jesuit
faces conference rival Southridge of Beaverton in the 6A contest, while No.
1 West Albany squares off against neighboring Corvallis in the 5A game. Both
contests will be held at the University of Oregon's Autzen Stadium in
Eugene.ÿ
Jesuit, nationally ranked by
USA Today and MaxPreps.com, has annihilated all-comers in the 6A
championship bracket. The Crusaders mauled Canby, 63-21, in last weekend's
semifinals. Jesuit has outscored its playoff opponents 176-42 in three
playoff games so far. Southridge, which fell to the Crusaders 38-0 in a
nationally televised game on Nov. 2, played four postseason matchups to
reach the championship.ÿ They stunned fifth-ranked Lake
Oswego 27-7 in their semifinal contest.ÿ
At the 5A level, West Albany has
not moved from its No. 1 spot in the Associated Press polls since the start
of the season. They cruised past third-rated Wilsonville, 26-6, last
Saturday as Bulldog quarterback Jake Haberly rushed for 140 yards and two
touchdowns in the victory. Their fellow Mid Willamette team, Corvallis lost
only one game all year-to West Albany 31-8 on October 6. The Spartans won
their semifinal game last weekend against yet another Mid Willamette
team-Lebanon-by a count of 35-21.ÿ
Other Postseason
Notes:ÿ
The 4A championship game
features the top two teams in the last AP poll. Top-ranked Sisters plays
Siuslaw in the first game of this Saturday's championship triple header in
Eugene. Sisters topped Baker 26-7 in the semifinals, while Siuslaw beat
Ontario 34-7.ÿ
The 3A, 2A and 1A title games
were played last weekend. In the eight-man 1A championship, Dufur topped
Perrydale 38-20. Cascade Christian of Jacksonville took the 2A crown with a
27-18 win over Bonanza. A missed two-point conversion was the difference in
the 3A championship as Nyssa nipped Santiam Christian of Corvallis
7-6.ÿ
