Chase Young, a super quick and confident 6-foot-5, 225-pound rising senior from
DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), confirmed on Twitter early Saturday morning that he'll be attending Ohio State.
Young attended Ohio State's Friday Night Lights program that works out and welcomes many of its favorite targets. Don't be surprised if the Buckeyes land some more elite talent this weekend (More have, see below).
In Young, they secured a player ranked No. 28 overall by 247Sports Composite and No. 3 at weak side defensive end, but who earlier this month at The Opening told MaxPreps he thought he was the best at least at that event. DeMatha is the No. 19 team nationally according to the MaxPreps Early Contenders.
"I think I'm the best d-lineman out here," he said. "That's how I feel and I think I performed it. But you got to keep working."
His high school coach Elijah Brooks said of Young: "He's one of the most competitive kids I've ever coached. Whether it's at practice or camps or games, he doesn't take a play off. He likes to mix it up."
That's great news for Urban Meyer, who secured his 15th 2017 recruit, nine of whom are among the top 100 in the country and seven in the top 45. Young picked the Buckeyes over Alabama (ranked No. 2 in the recruiting composite team standings) and Maryland (No. 20).
Ohio State also landed four-star rising junior tailback
Brian Snead of
Armwood (Seffner, Fla.) and hopes to score several other recruits this weekend, including five-star receiver
Tyjon Lindsey of
Centennial (Corona, Calif.), the adopted brother of
Tate Martell from
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), one of the nation's top quarterbacks who committed to Ohio State last month.
Among other top targets at Friday Night Lights were five-star cornerback
Darnay Holmes of
Calabasas (Calif.) and four-star safety
Amir Riep of
Colerain (Cincinnati).
UpdateRiep, in fact, committed Saturday early afternoon local time, giving OSU its 16th 2017 recruit, 14 of them four-star or above. Riep's Colerain squad is No. 14 in the country. Riep made his decision on his 18th birthday.
Said Colerain coach Tom Bolden of Riep: "He's as good as it gets at his position, He's tall (6-1
and 185) and long and a big-time physical cover kid. He has all the
tools. ... He's a quiet kid. Very reserved. A lot of top-end kids
at his position are extroverts, but Amir just goes about his business.
He's extremely focused. He's on a mission."
It appears the Buckeyes are as well.
