Gig Harbor tight end Seferian-Jenkins ready to announce college choice

Skyline receiver Williams narrows down his choices; Washington state girls tourney MVP headed to Utah.

Austin Seferian-jenkins is ready to pick a college football team.

The Gig Harbor tight end, who is rated as No. 1 at the position by some recruiting services, will announce his selection Monday at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club at 6:30 p.m.

"We wanted to do it in the Harbor, so all his football teammates, basketball teammates, former coaches and anyone else in the community can come," Gig Harbor coach Darren McKay told the Tacoma News Tribune. "We're going to get him in a suit and do it right."

Seferian-Jenkins, who is also a standout basketball player, narrowed his choices down to California, Florida, LSU, Texas, USC, UCLA and Washington.

Seferian-Jenkins, who is 6-foot-7, 260 pounds, took a recruiting trip to Texas over the weekend.

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Seferian-Jenkins will pick between Texas and Florida. ESPN is reporting he will chose between Texas and Washington.

"I considered committing [to Florida], but I just decided I'm going to wait, I'm going to look at my options," Jenkins told the Sentinel. "By chance, Texas came along so now I'm looking at Florida and Texas and some other schools."

He caught 62 passes for 1,152 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior.

Football: Skyline's Williams Pares Down List

The 6-foot-3, 220 pounder had 20 touchdowns and 1,209 receiving yards as a junior for the state champs.

The three-sport star took recruiting trips to Notre Dame and LSU late last month. He narrowed his choices to Washington, California, Florida, LSU and Notre Dame. Arkansas, Washington State, Alabama, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma were pared off his original short list.

Girls basketball: MVP Headed to Utah
Cleveland forward Cheyenne Wilson, who led the Eagles to a surprise Class 3A girls state championship, has committed to play at Utah. The 5-foot-11 forward earned state tourney MVP after scoring 20 points in the title game.

"My decision came down to me wanting to leave Seattle," Wilson told the Seattle Times. "It had nothing to do with the way (Washington) recruited me. It was just me wanting to leave.

"The (Utah) campus was beautiful when I went for a basketball camp. They're going to the Pac-10, which means I'll be able to go home and play more. It's not that far away from home. I also like the coaches and style of play."

ALSO: Bellarmine Prep standout Simonne Potts, who was the Narrows League Bay Division MVP as a sophomore, has committed to the Air Force Academy. The 5-foot-11 player will play small forward.

Baseball: State Tourneys Headed to Tacoma
The Class 4A and 3A state baseball semifinals and championships will return to Cheney Stadium -- home of the Tacoma Rainiers -- in 2011. It is a one-year move because of a scheduling conflict at Safeco Field.

The games had been hosted at Safeco Field -- home of the Seattle Mariners -- since 2006. They were in Tacoma the year before.

Basketball: No Word on Regional Sites
The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association delayed its announcement of where regional sites for the state basketball tournament would be held. The WIAA was expected to announce the decision during its July meeting.

Tennis: Successful Spokane Coach Dies
Donna Lenseigne, who turned Gonzaga Prep into a girls tennis power, died unexpectedly of organ failure last month. Lengseigne, 51, coached the Bullpups to seven straight league titles (1997-2003) and eight years between losses.
