Austin Peck of
South Harrison (Lost Creek, W.Va.) had a senior night to remember against Clay County (Clay) on Tuesday, knocking down
20 3-pointers and finishing with 64 points. The point guard hit 11 from beyond the arc in the third quarter alone and shattered the previous state record of 12 in a 111-29 victory.
Peck attempted just 28 3-pointers to get to 20, including seven in the first half and one at the first quarter buzzer.
The third quarter opened with Peck knocking down his first five long balls. He finished with six more in the quarter to give him 18 heading into the fourth.
Peck drilled his 19th three from the corner to open the fourth, then took a shot from the wing — a few feet behind the 3-point line — for his 20th and final 3-point basket of the night.
The national record is 24 set by Taurean Moy of Booker T. Washington (Memphis) in 2000 according to the NFHS Record Book.
After the game Peck was hoisted in the air by his teammates to celebrate. The Hawks finished the regular season 19-1 and will open the playoffs on Feb. 25.
