Mogollon is 8-2 against St. Johns since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Mustangs will face off against the Redskins at 2:00 p.m. Mogollon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Mogollon didn't have quite enough to beat Hayden and fell 7-6.
Stetson Owens put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed over his last three contests. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Rocky Porter and Quinn Tenney stepped up to the plate in a big way. Porter went 2-for-4 with two triples and two runs, while Tenney went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Tenney has launched this season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, St. Johns made sure to put some runs up on the board against Northland Prep Academy on Monday. The Redskins were the clear victors by an 18-7 margin over the Spartans. The win continues a trend for the Redskins in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.
Lucas Page was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of St. Johns' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brant Hammond, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
St. Johns lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Mogollon's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for St. Johns, their record is now 6-13.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mogollon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like St. Johns struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mogollon couldn't quite get it done against St. Johns when the teams last played back in April of 2025 as they fell 4-1. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
