The high school football season in Colorado came to a close over the weekend with seven state champions crowned at various locations.
Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village) was among the winners, beating
Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch) 24-17 for the Class 5A title. That victory helped propel the Bruins to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
The first school in Colorado to win four straight state football titles, Cherry Creek finished the season with a 12-2 record after knocking off Valor in the title game for the third straight year.

Blake Purchase scored the game-winning touchdown for the Bruins with 6:12 left on his first offensive snap of the year. Committed to Oregon, the senior linebacker had 18 sacks going into the state title contest.
Carlson Tann was named the Class 5A state championship game's Most Outstanding Player after rushing for 164 yards and a score.
With Cherry Creek's latest win, Bruin head coach Dave Logan claimed 11th title of his career, the most of any coach in state history. Logan won state titles at Arvada West, Chatfield and Mullen prior to Cherry Creek.
Despite falling in the championship contest, Valor Christian (11-3) stayed put at No. 2. Meanwhile,
Cole LaCrue threw for 233 yards and ran for a pair of touchdowns and
Canon Juarez was named the championship game's Most Outstanding Player while leading
Broomfield (14-0) to the Class 4A state championship, its first state football title in 40 years. The Eagles climb to No. 4 at season's end.
Other state champions to make a home in the final MaxPreps Top 25 include No. 7
Roosevelt (Johnstown), No. 18
Eaton and No. 20
Limon. Eaton has won three straight Class 2A state titles.
