The Lancers (12-2) showed signs of brilliance while getting 15 points from Curtis Witt, 12 by Logan Johnson, 11 from Giuseppe Benedetti and 10 by Darius Thomas.
It offset a strong showing from the coveted sophomore tandem of Naseem Gaskin and Elijah Hardy, who scored 19 and 15 points, respectively. Gaskin added four assists and Hardy had three steals for the Dragons (7-9), the defending State Open Division champions.
O'Dowd battled from behind from the outset, trailing 15-8 after one quarter. The Dragons actually closed within six in the fourth but the Lancers went on a 10-0 run, eight scored by Witt.

The 6-foot-5 senior guards played like it by combining for 36 points in a tough, defensive-minded game between Northern and Southern California powers.
Ratinho made 7 of 11 shots to score a game-high 19 points and Peters made four key three-pointers as the host Spartans improved to 15-1 while their Orange County rivals dropped to 15-4.
De La Salle's defense, which has been superb all season, was once again, limiting Orange Lutheran to 35 percent shooting (16 of 49) while forcing 22 turnovers.
Orange Lutheran, which got a combined 11 points and 10 rebounds from Zac Jervis, also did an excellent job defensively, forcing 18 turnovers against a team that averages only 12.

Moreau Catholic 77, Sacramento 67The notion that Moreau Catholic, a group of seasoned 3- and 4-year varsity players, at least four of them destined for Division I college programs, were underdogs against any Northern California opponent Monday was, if anything, annoying.

The Mariners let out some steam, particularly in the fourth quarter, in a very impressive win over previously undefeated Sacramento (16-1) in the premier game at Haas Pavilion.
Moreau broke open a game Sacramento seemed in control of with a 23-9 run in the fourth quarter to record its second eye-opening win over the season after opening with a stunning victory over nationally-ranked Sierra Canyon. With 16 straight wins, Sacramento also came in nationally ranked, No. 16 according to the MaxPreps computer ranking.
When the Dragons, which got a monster 22-point, 18-rebound effort from Iowa State bound Solomon Young, opened a 54-44 lead in the third quarter, the Mariners looked cooked.
But Terrell Brown — the "most under-rated player in the Bay Area," according to teammate Oscar Frayer — hit a pair of three-pointers by the end of the period to close to 58-54. Brown finished with a game-high 23 points.
When Frayer (15 points, 10 rebounds), a high-flying 6-foot-6 wing, drilled his first basket since the first quarter, a three-pointer from the wing, Moreau took a 61-60 lead with 5:54 left. Brandon Lawrence (18 points, 10 rebounds) followed with a putback, the Mariners (13-3) were on their way.

And afterward, they weren't all that excited about it. Just satisfied.
"We might have been underdogs to everyone else, but not to us," Moreau coach Frank Knight said. "This is a very good win, but our guys have been in a lot of big games. This was another."
Sacramento has been in plenty of big games too. And like Moreau, the Dragons have numerous 3- and 4-year varsity players, including Young and UC-Santa Barbara-bound Christian Young (15 points).
But on this night, Moreau put its best basketball together when it counted most. On a night when leading scorer and 4-star junior point guard Damari Milstead had an off shooting night (5 of 18, 14 points), and Frayer, their top recruit Frayer was quiet in the middle quarters, the Mariners played nearly flawless in the fourth quarter, especially Brown, a 6-3 senior guard who has an offer from Fresno State. He made 8 of 11 from the floor.
"We just played with a lot of heart tonight," Frayer said. "Hopefully we'll see (Sacramento) again in the playoffs."
Said Knight: "I fully expect to face them again."

El Cerrito 66, Albany Academy 57
Scores and records can be deceiving as was proven in El Cerrito's fairly decisive win over Albany, which overcame a very slow three quarters to make a game of it.
Down by 17 late in the third quarter, Albany closed to within three behind 6-7 junior Hamier Wright (23 points) and second half efforts of Sal Arena (nine points).
But Trey Gray, a 6-1 junior, who had a game-high 25 points and Sayeed Pridgett, with 20 points, had just too much down the stretch. Clearly, El Cerrito is better than its 9-9 record. The Gauchos have played a rigorous schedule.
Albany Academy traveled all the way across country and played a nonleague game in the Bay Area on Saturday.
ALBANY ACADEMY (9-2)Hamier Wright 7 8-15 23, Langston Lanier 2 0-0 5, August Mahoney 2 2-2 8, Max Roemer 0 2-2 2, Will Bennett 2 1-2 6, C.J. Mulvey 1 2-2 4, Sal Arean 3 3-3 9. Totals 17 18-26 57.

Salesian 62, Sacred Heart Cathedral 51
The depth of the Pride (14-4) eventaully wore down the Irish (5-9), who got 20 points from talented 6-6 junior Alfred Hollins but not enough else to deal with one of Northern California's top teams.
Like is often the case with Salesian, the box score isn't flashy as Brandon McGhee, Jamario Bibb and Derek E'Denchukuwu all had 10 points each, while James Akinjo and Ke'mare Wright combined for 19.
The Pride took command of a close game with a 20-6 run in the third quarter. Salesian, winners of seven straight, took a 21-point lead into the fourth quarter. SHC (5-9) never stopped playing hard and made a nice 16-6 run in the fourth quarter.

Manteca 76, Berkeley 74 (2 OT)
Nevada-bound Kenny Wooten (26 points), a highly athletic 6-foot-9 forward,
made all the most spectacular plays but it was 6-10 senior post Anand Hundal (22 points) who did most of the damage when it counted most in this back-and-forth affair.
Hundal scored three straight buckets in the second overtime, including a tip-in of a missed free throw by Wooten, who made 10 of 16 shots, including numerous big dunks. After the tip in put Manteca up 75-74 with 45 seconds left, Wooten did make a spectacular block to thwart a Berkeley go-ahead attempt. Tydus Verhoeven made just one of two free throws with 23.1 seconds left.
A last-second 3-pointer by Bryant Monroe missed at the buzzer that would have given Berkeley (11-4), vastly undersized, the upset win.
The Yellowjackets took a 56-51 lead midway through the fourth quarter on back-to-back hoops by Sean Spikes - his only points of the game — but Manteca scored 10 straight points keyed by a layup, three-pointer and driving jumper by Dwight Young (14 points). That put the Buffaloes up 61-56 in the final minute.
But Avery Burt scored fastbreak hoop and Zachary Fleming made a three-pointer to force overtime.
Niles Malone was outstanding throughout, especially in the fourth quarter with 10 points for Berkeley. Ben Baker added 13 points, Bryant Monroe had 11 and Bryan Morris added 10.

Newark Memorial 61, Albany 58Decaurey Brown's wrist feels just fine. And so do the Cougars from Newark Memorial.
The 5-foot-10 junior, who missed two weeks with a broken left wrist (non-shooting hand), scored a career high 33 points, including going 16-for-19 at the line, lifting Newark Memorial (11-5) to a tough win over a never-say-die Albany squad (11-5), which got 17 points from Josh Friedkin and 16 by Marcus Simon.
See live play-by-play"Playing in this gym is a lifetime experience," Brown said. "Making all those free throws gave me confidence. My teammates showed confidence too, getting me the ball."
Brown shot 14 free throws in the first half, making 12, en route to 18 points at halftme. Albany, however, had a 31-30 lead. Mazae Boyd drilled a three-pointer and had a steal and layup to start the second half and Newark Memorial began to take control.
The Cougars seemed to have complete command with a 13-point lead early in the fourth quarter, when Albany went on a 12-0 run. A layup by Eric Mireri gave Albany its first lead of the second half 58-57 with 1:40 left in the game, but Lovelle Shackelford made a steal and went in for a bucket, to give Newark a 59-58 lead with 32 seconds left.
Friedkin was called for an offensive foul with 6.5 seconds left, Brown made two free throws to seal it with 4.4 seconds left.
Brown and Friedkin were the Muscle Milk Players of the Game.
