Michael Marshall couldn’t have scripted a better ending to his high school track and field career. Marshall, a senior at Salem High School, won the New Hampshire decathlon Sunday at Nashua South High School, defeating Nashua South’s Keith Lewis by 38 points (5,902 to 5,864).
“I knew he was going to be my main competition coming in,” Marshall said. “We’ve been back and forth all season.”
The battle was decided on the second day’s final event: the 1,500-meter run. Although Lewis finished sixth, Marshall protected his lead with a 40th-place finish.
Lewis held a 30-point lead after the first day of competition. Londonderry’s Becca Parascandola prevailed in the 100 hurdles, high jump and javelin and won the girls heptathlon with 4,381 points. Parascandola, a junior, placed no lower than 11th in any event. She finished second in last year’s heptathlon.

Girls Lacrosse: New Hampshire finishes strong
Five unanswered goals late in the second half carried the New Hampshire all-stars to a 23-14 triumph over Vermont in the Senior All-Star Lacrosse Classic on Sunday at Hanover High School.
Londonderry’s Kayla Green led all scorers with seven goals and two assists. Oyster River’s Amaryth Gass (five), Souhegan’s Stephanie O’Rourke (four), Portsmouth’s Samantha Whitney (three), Pinkerton Academy’s Heather Carr (two) and Concord’s Emily Viani (one) also scored goals for New Hampshire, which led 10-5 at halftime. Vermont received six goals from Woodstock’s Callie Bellimer.
Molly Katz (St. Thomas) and Taylor Hadcock (Londonderry) split time in goal for New Hampshire.
Boys Lacrosse: New Hampshire edges vermont
Hanover’s Sam Freihofer collected five goals and an assist to help New Hampshire beat Vermont, 15-14, in the boys half of the Senior All-Star Lacrosse Classic.
Freihofer scored all of his goals in the second half, when Vermont outscored New Hampshire 8-7.
Woodstock’s Josh Robinson led the Vermont offense with four goals. His final goal capped the scoring with 43 seconds to play.
New Hampshire received two goals and three assists from Will Dyke (Winnacunnet), three goals from Nick Provost (Exeter), two goals from Kyle Starr (Concord) and two from Sean Dippold (Bow). Provost was credited with the game-winning goal.
Andrew Keegan (Pelham), Brent Lyskawa (Bishop Guertin), and Connor Nolan (Goffstown) each appeared in goal for New Hampshire.
