Clarkston, who is 98-6 over the past four seasons, opened postseason play with a 71-46 win over Troy. Then, following a 58-35 triumph over St. Mary Prep, the Wolves kicked in the door to the Final Four with a 52-31 win over Carman-Ainsworth. Clarkston bullied its way into the state title game with a 74-49 semifinal win over De La Salle Collegiate.
After dominating the competition all year, Clarkston upended West Ottawa 81-38 in the
MHSAA Class A state championship contest. With the convincing triumph the 26-1 Wolves claimed Clarkston's second straight boys state basketball title, earned the No. 11 ranking in
MaxPreps' National Rankings and played their way into the
MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Writers' Poll at No. 5!
The Tour of Champions arrived an hour early in order to interview head coach Dan Fife, a few of his players and, of course, set up for an exciting celebration of Clarkston boys basketball at Depot Park in downtown Clarkston.
Sergeant First Class Harold Montague of the Michigan Army National Guard was on hand to present the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to Fife and the Wolves. The trophy is an impressive piece of hardware that is awarded to just 10 boys basketball teams across the country. Along with the trophy, Fife and the two-time defending state champions received commemorative Tour of Champions t-shirts and a nationally ranked rafter banner from SFC Montague to commemorate their state championship season and No. 11 national ranking. Coach Fife and his staff have obviously laid the groundwork for a winning culture of Wolves' basketball. Congratulations Clarkston Wolves on another outstanding basketball season!
