The 2021 high school football season in Alaska kicks off next week and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Coming off a 7-0 campaign last fall, East Anchorage owns the No. 1 spot in our preseason top 25.
The Thunderbirds outscored opponents 215-31 during an abbreviated six-game season in 2020 (the seventh win came via forfeit). East has a long tradition of championship football, winning the first ASAA-sponsored title in 1990 as well as recent crowns in 2016 and 2018. The program is 31-5 over the past five seasons.
With no state championships played in 2020 due to the pandemic, defending champions include South Anchorage (Division I), Soldotna (Division II) and Houston (Division III). All three of those schools appear in the preseason MaxPreps Top 25.
